We had a lovely dry day of racing at Wiscombe Park in Devon, for the 2nd event of the 2026 AOC Sprint & Hill Climb Competition. There were 3 Allards present; Geoff & Jon’s (ex Dave Loveys) K1, Simon’s P1 special and my P1 Fastback special.
Sadly the K1 was plagued with frustratingly intermittent electronic issues, the sort where you take everything apart and it works perfectly but as soon as you reassemble everything it works for 10 seconds then stops again. We got to hear that wonderful lump of a supercharger quite a few times when it decided to fire, but they were unable to put in a competitive time up the hill.
Talking of fire, my ignition / light switch decided to self ignite on the start line for my 2nd practise, with Charles yet again coming to the rescue. He replaced it with a pull switch blagged from Josh’s P1 (thank you Josh) which got me going again for the timed runs in the afternoon. Thankfully despite a late finish I managed to get home before needing any headlights.
Both Simon and myself managed to improve our previous times significantly, both now a whisker away from Geoff’s fastest time last year – though sadly still over 1.5 seconds away from Jon’s fastest time in 2025. We’ll get there, at least we managed to (mostly) stay on the track!
