The Vintage Sports Car Club Silverstone Spring Start on April 18 marked the ‘official’ opening to the 2015 racing season. Spotted in the paddock was the Allard J2 of Roger Hayes, who after a few years off, has now rejoined the AOC – welcome back Roger. Under the Silverstone sunshine the J2 looked wonderful in its period silver-over-red colour scheme. It is somewhat refreshing to see ‘as original’ painted wire wheels making a comeback rather than the bling of chrome.
On track, The George Abecassis Trophy race featured Mark Butterworth in his faithful red K3 (18th overall) and Tom Walker’s J2X Le Mans (DNF). In the 1950’s sportscar race, Oliver Llewellyn guesting in Father Tim’s J2 Allard, finished an excellent 5th overall while Tony Bianchi’s Farrallac succumbed to an unusual DNF.
