    Hi Tom, many thanks for the advice which I’ll follow; it will probably end up being the ‘stupid’ axle nut if puts up with a fight.

    Hi Charles,

    Mine is MUA 735 (1949) attached is a photo of JYT 944 where the edge (shadow gap) of the cowling can be seen on the LHS. Many thanks for help with this. The proof or otherwise will be when I take the grill off as there would have to be a return flange on the nose where a cowling would attach.

    Hi Charles, the cowling in the photo and from other Type M’s photos I’ve scavenged from the web all appear to be a separate removable panel and not welded.

    Many thanks Charles.  The cowling is at the top of and under the waterfall grill the half-moon shelf is there. I’ve been scavenging photos from the web and all other M types appear to have the panel. I just need some dimensions/photos so that I can drawup.  I presume the cowling is aluminium.
