Regis TAP Rally

Four club members participated in the Regis TAP Rally on 4 September organised by the Bognor Regis Motor Club. Sheila Tiller was out in her L, James and Bridget Smith in their L and Darell and Jenny Allard in their M. David Moseley also joined in but his Allard was ‘in dock’ so he was out in his superb Jaguar XK 150, the most desirable in the XK range. From a start just east of Chichester where they were waved off by five-times Le Mans winner Derek Bell the route went north via many country lanes, including some unintended diversions, ending up at Churt in the Surrey foothills. Here the participants visited a private museum containing the most eclectic collection of classic and vintage cars and memorabilia you would ever wish to see.

Put together by Robert and Tanya Lewis over 20 years it had everything from two Formula 1 cars (850bhp) to a Sinclair C5 three wheeler (0.34hp). Highlights were a pre-war Lagonda V12 Le Mans racer and a stunning Koenigsegg Agera R, which Robert assured the visitors he took to Sainsbury’s to do the shopping.

There were also two tractors, a Lamborghini and a Fiat, which bought memories of Dave. Regrettably there was an absence of Allards, though Tanya Lewis said she had raced a J2 in the past. Finally the teams dragged themselves away from this mouth-watering collection and, after further meanderings through the English countryside, ended up at the finish and some well-deserved refreshments.
The event was in aid of the Surrey Air Ambulance; over 80 cars participated and in all an excellent days motoring supporting a very good cause – and the sun shone throughout the day.
