From the archives, the first of a series

AOC Archivist Gavin Allard has unearthed these gems

A mirror on the AOC Newsletter – from where did we emerge? “1951 was the year we started” I hear many cry. “Yes” and “No” is my response. “Yes” for the Allard Owners Club and “No” for the Newsletter.
These are the first of a series of photographic extracts that illustrate the first ten years of what would become The Tailwagger.
I invite you to read the notices and entries which I have found so interesting. As archivist I am looking to gather any missing publications although it is true to say we just shall never know how many variants of each edition were produced as the publication found its footing.

April 1948 letter

The very first newsletter the archive has is this Home Edition comprising a single foolscap page.  Created by the Allard Motor Company, they had seen the merits of producing an update on company developments. An Overseas Trade Edition was also issued.
By 1949 editions had settled down to an Enthusiasts Edition and a Trade Edition.

Jan 1950 letter

The first mention of the AOC appears in this Enthusiasts Edition. The ball was rolling and momentum would only increase.
Talking of the ball rolling, next time Gavin will cover Newsletters with the first committee and the first AGM, at a long-gone pub famous in the seventies for Punk bands.
