The Allard Motor Company originally made 12 J1’s and this car is the sole remaining J1 of the 3 special bodied J1’s commissioned by Len Potter for his Team cars. It has excellent providence with successes in the Alpine Rally and other events in period and the car is currently used for Hill Climbs, Sprints, Track days and touring.
Roger Hayes rescued and fully restored the car the car in the early 80’s and he and Sylvia used it for many years as a daily driver.
The body has recently had a full body restoration by Peter Baylis at Clanfield Restorations with much replacement wood and the rear wings have been restored to their original form. There is a documented portfolio showing this work prior to and after a full bare metal respray. The 4490-cc flat head engine was built up by Jim Tim Turnbull at Royal Kustoms and is fitted will Offenhauser aluminium cylinder heads and inlet manifold with twin Stromberg 97’s and Stromberg electronic ignition. It was built as a 160 bhp engine and is fitted with a Jaguar 4 speed gearbox mated to the original torque tube. With the recently rebuilt rear axle with 3.27 CW&P it has long legs which work very well with the 4-speed gearbox. The original Ford 3 speed gearbox and exposed gear selector will go with the car and can be easily refitted.
The car has been equipped with a new fully watertight detachable mohair hood and side screens and also with a powerful heater for those cold days.
Many pictures and a full history available on request.
Much loved car needs a new home with someone who will use and enjoy it.
