Bearing in mind all the publicity the Brighton Speed Trials were a disaster. As I remember we were only allowed to run the quarter mile and this was achieved with a practice run without any major problems. There were no madly smoking tyres off the line, however the pickup was good and the noise was quite deafening. For the official run the engine would not even fire. All the usual remedies were tried to no avail. It was very disappointing bearing in mind all the effort which had been targeted in getting to Brighton and perhaps a salutary lesson in getting too much publicity prior to a fairly major event. Subsequently the fault was found to have been in the magneto. Being wise after the event we should have had a spare magneto, however we did not so that was that.

The Dragster was run again after Brighton, and won the sprint championship before being put away for the year.
At the 1962 Racing Car Show the dragster was shown and in order to show the car off in it’s best light the body was cut down it’s centre line revealing the engine and supercharger. An impressive way to show the car but an expensive operation in welding it back together and re-painting the whole car!
